The Oxford Hotel began its life in 1906. Over the next 40 years it was extended and modified. Many of the original features were altered or removed during the 1950's. Restoration of the hotel as we see it today was commenced in September 1999. Current owner Peter Hayes and son Matthew closed the Hotel for 17 months and re-opened on the 14th of February 2001. During this time they were responsible for the major part of restoration and outfit, painstakingly and laboriously restoring and transforming the hotel as you see it today. The first floor of the Hotel has recently been totally gutted and renovated and what were once the old guests accommodation rooms has been transformed into a magnificent function centre, including the Grand Oxford Room, the Lounge Bar, the Balcony Verandah and the Boardroom. The Australian Designers Association awarded the National Award for the Best Commercial Interior in 2002 to designer Tony Casella for his outstanding work on the historic Oxford Hotel. Come, experience and discover why people rave about the gem that is The Oxford Hotel.
